My Story

04/22/2013

I would like people to know that having a dog with special needs is not to be taken lightly but the joy that it has brought to each member of our family is just wonderful!  Rescue groups have won my heart, I truly would never look outside of a rescue group/shelter ever again.  These dogs have such an appreciation for the new life that you have provided them and you can see it in their eyes, each time they look at you.  Photos will be coming shortly, my computer skills are not the best but Chloe has soooo many pictures that I need to pick the best ones for her update and I am currently working on this!

This is not our first rescue experience, but we have been so pleased with each one! Dogs give me such a joy in my heart, and the fact that Chloe is special needs (deafness)i feel especially happy that we could give her the second chance that she might not have gotten elsewhere. Although her issue with food causes us to be very watchful, my other dogs of her same breed have some of the same qualities, so we are very in tune to her needs. She is such a special girl, she is so loving and luvs to cuddle with us, and her brothers and sisters.. she plays differently with each one of them!

Hi, Drama here!! Foster mom asked if I would do a write-up for her-she's a little busy and has been remiss in letting everyone know just how well I am doing!!

First, now we know what all my genes are! (not sure I get that, but foster mom says it's important) My DNA results say that I am a Boxer/American Bulldog mix. Mom was really happy about that! She says that I got the best of both doggie worlds!

Life in NJ has been a lot of fun lately. Lots of doggie friends coming and going and I am finding that there aren't too many dogs that I don't like. Isn't it great that all these friends come to visit me! I love that! We run around outside and I love, love, love to do the "burn" around the yard-and the house lol! I spent this morning amusing myself by jumping on the big human bed and off again, on again and off again-and then, crashed and had a little nap. It's exhausting being a puppy you know!

My foster sister Chloe is my best friend. Sometimes she has to keep me in line and show me how I am supposed to behave-that's ok, I need to know how it goes. I listen when Chloe speaks lol I am a very quiet girl. Some of the doggies that I have met make a lot of noise but I don't find that it's necessary to me to do that. I just look adorable and that seems to work for me!

Mom says that I am getting very good at remembering to go outside when it's time to "go'. I only forget once in awhile and I'm always very sorry. Sometimes it's just so much fun to play that I forget to take the time to stop and take myself out. There is a "doggie door" here, so I will need to work on walking on a leash a bit more when I go to my new home.

I sleep all night in my crate and never make a peep-but I am so very happy when morning comes and I get breakfast and a chance to play again!

I am learning a lot of signs. I know stop and shhh and come pretty well now. I don't always "listen" and Mom has to refocus my attention and try again. It's not that I don't know what she wants me to do-sometimes I just don't want to do it right then lol She laughs at me a lot-so I figure, it makes her happy!

I think my furever family is out there somewhere, so I will wait patiently here in NJ for them to find me. But hurry! I can't wait to meet you!

Drama has arrived!!! and she is just as cute as she can be.  She weighs about 30 pounds and stands just about 20 inches tall at her withers.  There's a lot of puppy energy in that little, tiny body of hers though!  Like most puppies, she runs and plays and runs and plays some more-and then, CRASH, she's sound asleep for an hour or so gearing up for some more running and playing.  She is a complete hoot!!  It's nice to have a puppy in the house again.

We are working on Drama's house training and she is improving daily.  Again, like most puppies, she gets busy playing and sometimes forgets that outside is much better than inside for those things…LOL!  I have a doggie door and she has mastered that without a hitch-she does go out all on her own and most times does what she should and then comes back in.

Drama has won the heart of my Chloe who will be 13 on February 27th.  That is not an easy thing to accomplish.  When you become a mature girl like Chloe, the young ones can be very annoying interrupting your beauty sleep.  But Drama has wiggled her little self into Chloe's heart and now can even take a place next to her on the bed.  As most deaf dogs, Drama wants to be touching another dog while she naps so that she can feel the other dog move and know something is happening.

Drama responds very well to being awoken by a gentle touch on her body.  She does not have an overactive startle reflex and wakes up happy and almost smiling.

Athough Drama has not yet met any children at my home, I am quite sure she would be fine with kids as long she - and they - are supervised.  Children over the age of 10 or 11 would be fine.

Drama sleeps all night in her crate with just a few whines at first and then she settles down and is out like a light.  She eats 3 times a day for now and loves whatever she gets.  Not a fussy bone in her little body.

Drama is listed on all her paperwork as a full boxer, but now that I have lived with her for a few days, my guess would be that she may be mixed with Boston Terrier or maybe even English Bulldog.  Whatever is mixed up in this baby, it's made a good baby!!  Seems the ingredients were all the right ones-she is as sweet as a puppy could be.
