My Story

Baxter is doing wonderful! He is the biggest lap dog we have ever had. At first he was a bit hard to handle but once we realized we were truly his forever home he is just the biggest love!
We got him some training and it was amazing how great he did, took no time at all and has been just wonderful!
He definitely is my husbands dog, loves to be near him even though he loves me and our daughter up too.
His older sister Ruby, who also is a rescue and a Boxer loves him to pieces, she can't get enough of him and they are hysterical when they play together!
He knows he is safe and very loved and we know we are too.

Baxter is doing great!!! I think it took him a while for him to believe he was in his forever home but he has finally settled in!
Baxter just loves playing with our other boxer, Ruby. They just love each other! He has to sleep with us or he is just not happy. We are still working on him to slow down when eating his food, so we have come up with a cookie sheet attached to his bowl risers. We love him and he looks so handsome!!

We can't believe it has been a year already! I think Baxter finally realizes that he is finally in his forever home! He hates to leave our side for a second and never met a dog that is so fascinated with the vacuum !
We love Baxter and most of all our female boxer Ruby adores him, they play so well together especially on the couch, which they are not supposed to be on! But what can you do!
We still have issues with him when people ring the door bell, he comes at you like you are his dinner but it is very short lived. Hands down best guard dog and he is not even a guard dog but I dare you to mess with us with him in the house!
He loves other dogs, although with the smaller one he wants to play so bad but does not quite get that he is so much bigger then they are! He is not aggressive at all. Loves when our daughters friends are over or ours, he is the first to jump in your lap and plant a huge kiss and then lean on you and do his best to keep Ruby from getting any attention.
Baxter is health and happy and very much loved! We tell people all the time where we got both our Boxers to promote adoption!
Thank you for everything we adore him!

Baxter is doing great! It feels like he has been with us a lot longer then 3 months!
We had a bit of an issue with him throwing up and at first were not sure what was causing it.  but quickly tried getting him to eat slower since we noticed he was just inhaling his food! I am glad to report that was it!
Ruby, our other boxer adores him and I don't think there is a minute were they are not playing with each other!
Unfortunately when we got Baxter all of the dog rules in the house fell apart! So he is very very comfortable sitting on the couch and sleeping with us! Baxter is at out feet and Ruby sleeps on my head!

We love him up all we can!

We love Baxter! We had to put our older boxer, Bob, to sleep several months ago he was 13 and was so sick in the end. It was very hard on us but especially, my husband and our other Boxer, Ruby... From the minute he came home he was our boy and he knew we were his forever home!
Everyone wwho walks through the door loves him and loves him up! We are so happy that we were able to adopt him and give him a wonderful home!
Family complete!

Baxter is simply a joy to foster.  He’s an easy keeper and such a good boy.  Everyone who meets Baxter instantly likes him as he has that personality that’s difficult to resist.  We took a trip to the vet a few weeks ago and we had good news.  The veterinarian, Dr. Foil, thinks that Baxter is only about two years old- possibly three but more than likely younger.  Baxter’s required rest period from the heartworm treatment is over so he is now able to run and play again.  He gets to interact with his Boxer friends and go on daily walks with my teenage son so we see big improvements in his muscle tone and overall endurance.  There are noticeable changes in his appearance and he seems happy and well-adjusted to life outside the shelter.  His coat is soft and shiny due to his improved health and healthy diet.  This handsome boy has also filled out nicely by gaining some much needed weight.
What can I say about Baxter?  He is such a gem and we are lucky to have him as a guest in our home.  This is a low maintenance guy who enjoys napping and eating as well as cuddling with his people when he can.  He loves balls and adores plush, squeaky toys- he has even fallen asleep with one in his mouth before.  Baxter is wonderful with my 3 year old toddler and demonstrates patience and tolerance with him at all times.  He is not a jumper so he would not be prone to knocking over a small child by accident.  Baxter is a solid dog with strength to match but he does very well on the leash and wants to please his people.  Baxter is versatile and could be a great dog for a family with or without another dog.  He’s definitely a keeper!

Please allow me to introduce Baxter - this handsome boy came into rescue just a few days ago and without delay became quite the popular man here in our home.  He instantly won over family members and has been a perfect gentleman with my two Boxers.  We are still getting to know Baxter but so far we have found that he has an easy way about him and loves to be with his people.  Baxter is fond of cuddling and is quite a big mush.  He is quite thin and will need to gain weight before he can go home with a new family.  The shelter estimated Baxter’s age to be about 3 or 4 years old.  We do know from Baxter’s shelter records that he had tested positive for heart worm and was treated.  As a result, he has to take it easy for a while longer before he can resume normal activity.  No running or jumping yet, just short walks to stretch the legs and outside for potty breaks.
Baxter is currently residing in foster care with a toddler, a teen, mom & dad and two Boxer dogs - a female and a male.  He is completely house trained and crate trained too.  He hops into his crate at night and never makes a peep, unless you count snoring!  That he does on occasion.  Baxter is a very strong dog even in his current condition so he will be even more so when he returns to a healthier state.  He knows sit and down and is learning other basic obedience skills as well.  Baxter is intelligent and has the kindest eyes.  He really is a good boy and has been a perfect guest in our home.
